Things to See
Manhattan island packs more famous destinations into its 33 square miles than just about anywhere else in the world. At its southern tip, tour the World Trade Center Site, then hop the Staten Island Ferry to glimpse Lady Liberty. Head northwest to the High Line, an elevated park overlooking the trendy Meatpacking District. Midtown must-sees include the Empire State Building, neon-drenched Times Square and Fifth Avenue icons like the New York Public Library, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Rockefeller Center. Upper Manhattan is nirvana for culture lovers, thanks to Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and dozens of other world-class institutions.
Columbus Circle Holiday Market Adds Festive Spirit to Central Park
We certainly don’t want to add one more thing to your to-do list at the end of the year. After all, there are presents to wrap. There are relatives to ignore. There are Christmas cookies to eat and New Year’s resolutions to anticipate.
We will, therefore, just gently advise that should you be able to make it happen: a visit to the Columbus Circle Holiday Market in New York City this winter season will not disappoint.
Confronted with twinkling lights and passionate vendors in rustic wooden booths, even the most dedicated cynic might be forced to smile. (It may have something to do with the excess of pastries, but we will also pretend that it’s the holiday spirit, because stories sound more sentimental that way.)
